Recently, the "2023 Lianku National Circular Digital Cold Chain Theme Salon" was successfully held in Zhengzhou, under the guidance of the Cold Chain Committee of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing and hosted by Lianku. Hongxinyuan was invited to participate in the salon and delivered an important speech on industry research and the advantages of cold storage products.
In this cold chain themed salon, Dou Dejun, head of the cold chain market of Hongxinyuan Shandong Jinnuo New Materials Co., Ltd., gave a keynote speech on "Performance indicators of SBI-B1 grade PIR cold storage panels and flame retardant performance in fires."
After research, it was found that GB 50072-2021 "Cold Storage Design Standard" requires that the combustion performance of thermal insulation materials should comply with the following regulations: When the cold storage warehouse uses lightweight composite sandwich panels such as metal-faced insulation sandwich panels as thermal insulation enclosures, the combustion performance of the sandwich panel core material should not be lower than Class B1. And the B1-grade core material should be a thermosetting material.
The regulations on Class B1 are derived from the mandatory national standard GB8624-2012 "Classification of Combustion Performance of Building Materials and Products". This national standard divides the combustion performance levels of flat-plate building materials into the following (Figure 2):
The national standard states that "for wall insulation foam plastics, in addition to meeting the requirements of Table 1, the following requirements must also be met: B1 oxygen index value OI ≥ 30%. The test is based on GB/T2406.2."
The national standard mentions GB/T20284 "Single Burning Item for Building Materials or Products", the "single burning item" is Single Burning Item, referred to as SBI. That is to say, in addition to the oxygen index requirement, the national standard also requires the core material B1 grade to meet the SBI test content.
SBI B1 Key Indicators Interpretation
◼ FIGRA Fire growth rate index (B grade)
• FIGRA0.4MJ When the sample releases 0.4MJ of heat, the fire growth rate index is ≤ 120 W/s
◼ Total heat release within 600s (THR600s) (B grade)
• The total heat released by the complete combustion of the material within 600 seconds is ≤ 7.5MJ
◼ Smoke generation rate index (SMOGRA)
• The maximum value of the ratio of the sample combustion smoke generation rate to its corresponding time is ≤ 180 ㎡/s²
◼ Total smoke generation in 600 seconds is ≤200㎡
◼ Burning drips/particles:
• No burning drips/particles within 600 seconds
◼ Flame spread horizontally: does not reach the edge of the long wing of the sample
Due to the inherent flammability of the pentane foaming agent system and the high flame retardant standard set for B1 grade in the national standard, there are only a handful of manufacturers in the polyurethane cold storage board industry that can obtain the Dujiangyan qualified pentane system B1B test report, especially the most difficult SBI. In 2022, Hongxinyuan sent a 150mm core material B1 grade test sample to the Sichuan Fire Research Institute for inspection. The test report is as follows.
Hongxinyuan's products passed all the 6 key indicators of the SBI test without any pressure. In particular, the FIGRA0.4MJ value must be less than 120W/s to pass the B1B requirement, and Hongxinyuan's test report reached 19W/s, far exceeding the national standard. And the smoke toxicity meets the national standard requirements and reaches the ZA₃ level. Our company uses the BASF flame retardant polyester system, rather than the simple physical flame retardant in the industry, which has a higher safety level and more stable flame retardancy.
PIR cold storage panels must meet the national standard requirements for core material B1 grade, but the oxygen index of 30 is far from simulating the actual situation when a fire occurs. SBI testing is more stringent and closer to the actual fire situation.
